Ahead of the Haryana Assembly Election 2024, wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joined the Congress party. While they were joining inside the Congress headquarters in Delhi, farmers were protesting outside. However, the protest was not about the wrestlers joining Congress, but about a rumored decision to give an election ticket to a corrupt leader from Hisar.

A farmer leader protesting outside the Congress office said, “We came from Hisar, Haryana, because we heard that Congress is planning to give an election ticket to a corrupt person. We are here to request Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Deepak Babaria not to do this.”

No Ticket for Corrupt Leader

The farmer leader emphasized that they don’t want any corrupt person to get a ticket for the elections. He added that they are happy to see Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia joining Congress, as they are respected athletes and Olympians. But their main concern was that Congress should avoid giving election tickets to corrupt individuals.

Demand for a Farmer Leader

Joginder, a farmer leader from Hisar, said they are asking Congress to give the election ticket to an honest farmer leader instead. He warned that if Congress still gives the ticket to a corrupt leader, it is up to them whether they will vote or not.
