Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia Join Congress: Wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia officially joined the Congress party on Friday, September 6, 2024. During this event, Congress leader KC Venugopal made a statement saying that Vinesh Phogat received a “show cause” notice from Indian Railways after meeting with Rahul Gandhi on September 4 in New Delhi.

Railways Sent Notice to Vinesh Phogat – KC Venugopal

Before joining Congress, both Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia resigned from their positions in Indian Railways. KC Venugopal stated, “Railway officials sent Vinesh Phogat a show cause notice, and her only fault was meeting with Rahul Gandhi.” He further added that Railways should not get involved in politics and should complete the formalities to relieve Vinesh from her post.

Haryana will hold assembly elections next month, and both wrestlers joined Congress ahead of the elections. Before joining, they had met with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence. Vinesh and Bajrang also met Rahul Gandhi on September 4, 2024.

Vinesh and Punia Criticize BJP

After joining Congress, Vinesh Phogat said she was proud to join a party that stands against atrocities on women. She stated, “I have been given the opportunity to serve the people of my country. This is a new journey. As a sportsperson, I don’t want any other athlete to suffer what we went through.”

Haryana’s 90-member assembly elections will be held on October 5, and the results will be announced on October 8. Bajrang Punia said he would work hard to strengthen Congress and the nation. He also criticized the BJP, accusing them of supporting those who commit crimes against women.
