During an IPL 2025 match between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings, a case of illegal betting has come to light. The match, held on Tuesday, was won by Punjab by 18 runs. While the match was going on, Delhi Police arrested two men in Narela, Delhi, for running a betting operation.
Betting Busted During the Match
According to a report by ANI, the police raided a house in Swatantra Nagar, Narela, and caught two men red-handed. One of them, Rohit Kumar, was managing the accounts for the betting money, while the other, Tajinder Singh, was handling a communication box connected to several mobile phones.
Police recovered:
- ₹20,000 cash (in ₹500 notes)
- 5 mobile phones
- A communication box (also called a “dabba”)
- A microphone connected to the box
- A notebook used to record betting details
- An LED TV used to watch the match live
Special Police Efforts
Delhi Police’s special staff has been very active during IPL 2025 to stop illegal betting. Just a few days ago, police also busted a betting gang in Paharganj and arrested six people.
How Police Got the Tip
On April 8, just about an hour before the match started, an anonymous person called the police and gave detailed information about the betting racket. He said the group was using mobile phones and other electronic gadgets to place bets during the match.
The police took the tip seriously and conducted a raid at around 10:40 PM the same night — and caught the accused while they were running the betting operation.
Final Words
This incident has once again brought shame to the IPL. Illegal betting is a serious crime and such activities raise questions on the integrity of the game. Police are now continuing their investigation and keeping an eye on other suspected betting activities during the tournament.
