The next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is still some time away, but news about IPL 2025 is already making headlines. Fans are eager to know every update about the upcoming season. One important update is that Mumbai Indians’ captain and star all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, will miss the first match of IPL 2025. He has been banned for one match.

Reason for the Ban:
Hardik Pandya was fined and banned due to a mistake in the last league match of IPL 2024. During that match, Mumbai Indians failed to complete their 20 overs on time. As a result, the IPL Governing Council imposed a fine of ₹30 lakh and a one-match ban on Hardik Pandya.

Impact on IPL 2025:
Since Mumbai Indians’ last match of IPL 2024 was against Lucknow Super Giants and they could not complete their overs on time, Hardik Pandya’s suspension affects him for the first match of IPL 2025. Mumbai Indians will not be playing any more matches in 2024, which means Hardik will miss the opening game of the next season.

Other Captains with Similar Bans:
Hardik Pandya is the second captain in IPL history to face a ban due to slow over rates. Earlier in IPL 2024, Delhi Capitals’ captain Rishabh Pant was also banned for one match for a similar reason. Pant missed a crucial match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) due to this ban.
