MP Administration on High Alert After Kolkata Incident: Inspecting Hospitals Late at Night

After the shocking incident in Kolkata involving the rape and murder of a trainee doctor, the Madhya Pradesh government has heightened its vigilance. Administrative officials are now conducting surprise inspections of hospitals across the state. They are also providing guidelines to strengthen security measures.

In Ujjain, police teams inspected over 30 hospitals, checking security systems, CCTV cameras, and access points. In Sehore, the District Collector and SP conducted a surprise inspection of the district hospital late at night. Similar inspections were carried out in Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Raisen, and other districts.

Details from Sehore District:

  • Inspection Time: The Collector, Praveen Singh, and SP, Mayank Awasthi, visited the Trauma Center at 10:45 PM.

  • Areas Inspected: They checked the hospital’s entrances, internal security arrangements, and the ANM training center. They also reviewed the maternity ward.
  • Instructions Given: They instructed to increase the number of CCTV cameras and add lights at the main gate. The back entrance should only be used in emergencies, with detailed records of those who enter.

Security Measures in Ujjain:

  • Hospitals Inspected: More than 30 private and government hospitals were checked.
  • Focus Areas: Inspections included checking cameras, security systems, entry and exit points, and ensuring vacant areas are secured. SP Pradeep Sharma instructed all police stations to list and inspect local hospitals.
  • Identification: Attendants should be issued ID cards to prevent unauthorized access. Security guards need training for emergency situations. CCTV cameras must be of good quality, continuously monitored, and data securely stored.

Additional Measures:

  • For Security Guards: Ensure they are well-trained and have police verification.
  • For Female Staff: Provide separate rooms and adequate lighting for female doctors and staff working night shifts.

The Madhya Pradesh administration is taking these steps to ensure the safety and security of hospitals and their staff, following the alarming incident in Kolkata.
