During the third and final phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived in Jammu. He targeted the central government on several issues, including employment. While addressing a rally, he stated, “You have faced injustice. Your democracy has been taken away from you. The state is not run by you; it is run by outsiders. Your rights as a state have been taken away, and it has been made a Union Territory.”

Outsiders Are Running Jammu and Kashmir

In his election campaign, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said, “If the BJP does not give you statehood, we will do everything we can to give you statehood because it is your right. Without it, you cannot dream of Jammu and Kashmir. The youth of Jammu and Kashmir cannot find jobs. As long as there is a Lieutenant Governor here, all the work will go to outsiders. These people want Jammu to be run by outsiders, not by the locals.”

Rahul Gandhi added, “Jammu is the central hub here that connects the business and production of Kashmir with the entire country. But the BJP government has destroyed this central hub’s role and broken the backbone of the MSMEs and entrepreneurs here. Until the MSMEs of Jammu and Kashmir stand on their own feet, jobs will not be created.”

Targeting Modi Government on Statehood

Rahul Gandhi criticized the Modi government regarding statehood, saying, “We thought you would get your statehood back before the elections. That was the right way, but now we want you to get your democratic rights as soon as possible. This has never happened in the history of India, and it should not happen to anyone. Once our government is formed in Jammu and Kashmir, we will ensure you get statehood.”

He also mentioned, “GST is a weapon used to attack small and medium industries in Jammu and Kashmir. The truth is that demonetization and the wrong implementation of GST have destroyed millions of businesses in India.”
