Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a three-day visit to the United States, accompanied by several senior officials. During this visit, the PM held bilateral talks with the leaders of various countries. However, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval was notably absent, leading to speculation. Now, the real reason behind his absence has been revealed.
According to senior officials linked to the Indian government, NSA Ajit Doval did not accompany the PM due to international pressure or any other reasons. Instead, he stayed in India to handle the security situation related to the ongoing elections and other domestic issues in Jammu and Kashmir. Officials dismissed rumors that Doval stayed back because of a summons issued by a New York court.
What is the Full Story?
The summons was issued to Ajit Doval in response to a civil lawsuit filed by Khalistani activist and founder of Sikhs for Justice, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. There was also a meeting among Sikh activists running campaigns against the Modi government, which raised questions about whether the US was sending a “tough message” to India. However, on Thursday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs called the lawsuit filed by Pannun completely baseless and unjustified.

Foreign Secretary’s Comments on the Case
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the Indian government is continuing a high-level investigation into the conspiracy allegations involving Pannun. He also mentioned that before PM Modi took office, several summonses related to the 2002 Gujarat violence were issued by the US. However, all of them were “dismissed” after the US State Department granted immunity to serving officials and dignitaries.
