Just ahead of the festive season, food delivery and quick-commerce company Eternal (parent firm of Zomato and Blinkit) has given a surprise to customers. On 2nd September 2025, the company raised its platform fee by 20%. Now, instead of ₹10, users will have to pay ₹12 per order as platform charge.
Why the hike?
The company has made this change in less than a year. According to reports, rising operational costs and expected festive season demand are the main reasons behind this increase.
Impact on Customers
With this revision, every order will now cost ₹2 extra.
- Earlier: ₹10 per order
- Now: ₹12 per order
For frequent users, the impact will be bigger. For example, someone who orders 20 times a month will now pay ₹240 per month in platform fees, compared to ₹200 earlier.
The Journey of Zomato’s Platform Fee
Zomato introduced platform fees in 2023 under CEO Deepinder Goyal to improve margins and profits. The fee has changed several times since then:
- 2023 (start): ₹2 per order
- Later in 2023: Raised to ₹3
- 1st Jan 2024: Increased to ₹4
- Dec 31, 2023 (festive demand): Temporarily raised to ₹9
- 2024 (afterwards): Fixed at ₹10, called “Festive Season Platform Fee”
- 2nd Sept 2025: Raised to ₹12
In just two years, the fee has gone from ₹2 to ₹12 – a 6x increase.
Bottom Line
For Zomato, this move could help balance higher costs and festive rush. But for customers, it means ordering food at home is now slightly more expensive than before.
