IndiGo Flight Returns to Patna After Bird Hit, All 169 Passengers Safe

On Wednesday, 9 July 2025, an IndiGo flight from Patna to Delhi had to return just minutes after take-off. A bird hit one of the engines, which caused a technical problem. The pilot quickly decided to return to Patna Airport for safety. There were 169 passengers on board. All are safe.


What Happened?

According to reports, the flight took off at 8:41 AM, but soon after, the engine started shaking due to the bird hit. The pilot informed air traffic control and landed the flight safely at 9:03 AM on Runway 7.


Patna Airport’s Statement

Patna Airport released a statement saying:

“Flight IGO5009 from Patna to Delhi reported a bird hit just after take-off at 8:42 AM. Bird remains were found on the runway during inspection. The pilot noticed engine vibrations and safely returned the flight to Patna.”


What Next?

A technical check of the aircraft is underway. Meanwhile, alternative arrangements are being made to send passengers to Delhi.


Similar Incident from Indore

Just a day before (8 July), another IndiGo flight from Indore to Raipur had to return after 30 minutes of flight due to a technical issue. The flight safely landed back in Indore.
