The new GST 2.0 rates announced by the government have come into effect from 22 September 2025. These changes are expected to give direct relief to consumers as the prices of many home appliances and electronics will now be lower. The decision to cut Goods and Services Tax (GST) was taken recently to make essential household products more affordable.
Electronics and Appliances Become Cheaper
Earlier, large appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, and televisions were taxed at 28% GST. Now, the rate has been reduced to 18%, giving buyers a direct saving of around 8–10%.
Many companies have already announced a reduction in their prices. Experts suggest that the cost of products such as ACs and TVs could fall by up to ₹10,000. Smaller appliances and accessories such as mobile chargers, mixers, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, and air coolers will also see a drop in prices.
How Much Will You Save?
- A 1-ton AC priced at ₹30,000 earlier had a 28% GST (₹8,400). Now, with 18% GST (₹5,400), buyers will save ₹3,000.
- A 32-inch or bigger LED/LCD TV worth ₹20,000 earlier had ₹5,600 tax. With the new rate, the tax is only ₹3,600, meaning a ₹2,000 saving.
- A dishwasher worth ₹10,000 earlier had ₹2,800 tax, but now the tax is ₹1,800, so customers save ₹1,000.
Relief on Other Products Too
The GST Council has also reduced tax from 28% to 18% on monitors, projectors, and similar electronics. This will make them significantly cheaper in the market.
Festive Season Boost
With the revised GST rates, consumers will find household electronics more affordable. This move is expected to bring a big boost to sales during the upcoming festive season, as people will be more encouraged to shop.
