The Indian Army and the local police in Jammu and Kashmir are continuously working to destroy terrorism in the region. There have been many cases where terrorists targeted local people. To protect the communities, the Indian Army, with the help of the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), has started training the Village Defence Guards (VDG). This training aims to enhance the security of local communities.

VDGs Will Protect Villages from Terrorists

The goal of this initiative is to equip these civilians with all necessary skills so they can defend their villages from terrorist threats. This also helps to strengthen the overall security of the region. According to a report by news agency ANI, around 600 people are currently being trained in using automatic rifles, squad post drills, and small strategies for handling dangerous situations.

Helping Security Forces in Tracking Terrorists

VDG members usually assist security forces in remote areas of Jammu in tracking down terrorists. Recently, the central government provided them with the latest weapons to meet their needs. Earlier, VDG members only had outdated 303 rifles, but now they are equipped with modern SLRs (Self-Loading Rifles).
