UPSC Lateral Entry Row: After the controversy over the advertisement for lateral entry in UPSC, the central government decided to take a U-turn and withdraw it. Many questions arose about why the government made this decision. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw provided an explanation. He mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always shown his commitment to social justice.
He further explained that the transparent decision of lateral entry in UPSC was made with the principle of reservation in mind. The Information and Broadcasting Minister stated, “Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again reinforced his commitment to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s Constitution with this important decision. UPSC had adopted a very transparent method for lateral entry, and now we have ensured that the principle of reservation is applied. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always shown his commitment to social justice.”
Reservation Principle Applied Everywhere
He also mentioned, “Earlier, the OBC Commission was just an ordinary body, but we gave it constitutional status. Whether it is NEET, medical admissions, Sainik Schools, or Navodaya Schools, we have applied the principle of reservation everywhere. We have also given a place of honor to the ‘Panch Teerth’ of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar. Today, it is a matter of pride that the President of India belongs to the tribal community.”
Social Justice Reflects in PM Modi’s Decisions
The Union Minister added, “Today, under Modi Ji’s saturation program, all schemes are being delivered to the last person in the country. The maximum benefit of these schemes is going to the SC, ST, and OBC communities. Modi Ji’s commitment to ensuring justice for the last person in society is reflected in the decision to apply the principle of reservation in lateral entry for UPSC.”
Did Congress Consider Reservation Principles?
Ashwini Vaishnaw also raised a question, “Before 2014, during the UPA government, the principles of reservation were not considered. Finance Secretaries were appointed through lateral entry without considering the principle of reservation. Dr. Manmohan Singh, Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and Dr. Vijay Kelkar were also appointed as Finance Secretaries through lateral entry. Did Congress consider the principle of reservation at that time? Transparency was being brought in through lateral entry in UPSC, and now by applying the principle of reservation, we have shown our commitment to social justice and the Constitution.”
