The incident occurred in the 9th over after Bangladesh chose to bat first. Hardik appeared to have sprained his ankle when he tried to stop Litton Das’ right-footed shot  but slipped. He landed awkwardly on his left foot and a physio had to run onto the pitch.

With Hardik in visible pain, Indian captain Rohit Sharma decided to take him out of the attack. However, in a rare sight, Rohit invited Virat Kohli to bowl the remaining delivery.

The former Indian captain bowled three overs and conceded two runs. Notably, this was the first time in six years that Kohli had played in a one-day international.

Earlier, Bangladesh all-rounder and skipper Shakib was ruled out of the game with a quad injury. “Shakib is having some difficulty, but Nasum will help him.” We hope to maintain our form as we have wonderful memories against India. I’m hoping for a fantastic match,” Shanto remarked.

Although India named the squad unchanged, Hasan Mahmud was brought into the Bangladesh side in place of Taskin Ahmed.

India’s squad includes : Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul (w).
