India’s senior players, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, are set to return to domestic cricket as they prepare for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, which starts on September 19. Reports suggest that before this series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked senior players to participate in the Duleep Trophy, providing a chance for star player Ishan Kishan to make a comeback.
Ishan Kishan’s Absence and Return
Ishan Kishan, the left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman, has been out of the Indian team since the start of this year. His sudden break from cricket last December, ahead of the South Africa Test series, surprised many. Despite requests from the BCCI, he did not participate in domestic cricket, leading to his exclusion from the Indian team and removal from the central contract list.
Opportunity in Duleep Trophy
After a long absence, Kishan is now preparing to return to domestic cricket. The BCCI’s senior men’s selection committee is considering including him in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, a major domestic first-class tournament starting in September. The tournament will feature four teams: India-A, India-B, India-C, and India-D.
Facing Rohit and Virat
If Kishan is selected for one of these teams, he will have the opportunity to play against big names like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Reports indicate that senior players, including Rohit and Virat, may participate in this tournament to prepare for the Bangladesh series. This will be the first time in years that they will be seen in Duleep Trophy action.
Other Star Players in Duleep Trophy
While the selection committee’s decision on senior players is yet to be finalized, it is likely that Rohit and Virat might play a few matches to gear up for the series against Bangladesh. Besides them, other prominent players such as Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammad Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul have been instructed by the board to participate in the tournament.
