Australia’s cricket team is undergoing changes, with several adjustments in different formats. Fans have questions about Steve Smith’s future and batting position. Recently, Smith spoke openly about his future in T20 cricket. He admitted he is unsure about his T20 career but remains committed to improving and making a comeback. Smith was not selected for the series against England and Scotland, and despite David Warner’s retirement, selectors chose younger players like Cooper Connolly and Jake Fraser-McGurk over him.
Smith told Fox Cricket, “I don’t know what’s happening with international T20s. Clearly, they have players they want to bring in, and that’s fine. I understand how they are preparing for the World Cup with strong players. I’m not too worried. I will keep working, trying to improve and get better.”
In July, Smith captained the Washington Freedom to win their first Major League Cricket (MLC) title. As a batsman, he scored 336 runs at a strike rate of 148.67. He also won Player of the Match for scoring 88 runs off 52 balls in the final against the San Francisco Unicorns.
Smith was absent from the IPL in 2021 but remained involved this year as a broadcaster. He believes he still has the ability to play in the competition with ten teams.
Smith is looking forward to playing for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League (BBL) after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, he may miss the final due to Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka in February 2025. Smith humorously mentioned the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, saying, “There is still time, so we will wait and see. I enjoyed watching the Paris Olympics, and it would be great to see the Australian cricket team perform well on that stage.”
