The problem of spam calls and messages is getting worse in India. Despite efforts by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), these issues are not decreasing. A recent survey has highlighted this problem. According to the survey, around 95% of Indians are dealing with unwanted calls and messages daily. The situation has worsened in the last six months, and even the Do Not Disturb (DND) feature on phones is not effective in stopping these calls.
LocalCircles recently conducted a survey showing that 95% of mobile users in India receive spam calls every day. Scammers are using new methods to trick people. The survey revealed that 77% of mobile users get spam calls at least three times a day. These calls often come from sectors like home loans, credit cards, and financial services. The survey also noted that in the past six months, the number of such calls has increased from 54% to 66%.
DND Feature Not Helping
The Do Not Disturb (DND) feature provided by smartphones and telecom companies is not effective against spam calls and messages. People are still facing many issues with these calls, and scammers are finding new ways to deceive them.

TRAI’s New Measures
TRAI had directed telecom companies to stop promotional messages, with a deadline of September 1. However, this deadline has now been extended to October 1, 2024. TRAI aims to control fake and spam calls soon. They have warned that if any entity misuses their SIP/PRI lines for spam calls, all their telecom resources will be cut off by their service provider, and the entity will be blacklisted.
