Shoaib Akhtar : India trail 147-2 in the 50-overs on Monday as rain brought an abrupt end to the innings after Pakistan opted to bat first in the 2023 Asia Cup match.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar dismissed skipper Babar Azam for opting to bat first in the  Super 4 match against India in Asia Cup 2023 on Sunday. Calling it a “smart decision”, Shoaib said  the rain saved Pakistan as  Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave them  a bright start. He also added that India was saved from rain during the  group stage by both sides and this time it was Pakistan’s luck.

“Very much so. I don’t see it starting again. The rain in Colombo  is crazy,” Akhtar wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

“Hey guys, I’m Shoaib, I came to watch the match, all our fans are also waiting, Indians and Pakistanis too. But finally the rain saved us! Before going to India, we were coming, the rain saved today. We passed India, luckily the rain stopped. (I came to watch the match, we are all waiting, India and Pakistan fans. The rain saved us, the other day the rain saved India, but today the rain saved us!), Akhtar was heard saying in a video that has been lost. viral  social media.

we can continue this game tomorrow at the same venue and we have taken a wise decision not to bowl first,” he added.

Rain on Sunday forced the postponement of the summit clash between India and Pakistan  in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup after 24.1 overs.

India were 147-2  in the 50-over contest on Monday after the rain ended abruptly and after Pakistan decided to bat first in Colombo.

The extra day was a last-minute addition to the Super Four match – the only game  other than the final to go ahead – after the previous group clash between the  teams in Pallekele was called off due to rain.
