Rohit Sharma : Sourav Ganguly believes that both Kohli and Rohit Sharma would be equally important for India in the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup.

In a few days, India will face arch-rivals Pakistan  in the opening game of the Asia Cup in Kandy. While the buzz is palpable, former India captain Sourav Ganguly said that Virat Kohli is as important to India as captain Rohit Sharma. Ganguly also believes that this will be Rohit’s first and last ODI World Cup as India’s captain. – He plays very well, no doubt about that. He is as much and as important as Rohit Sharma and we all know that the last World Cup performance was incredible and it would probably  be Rohit Sharma’s first and last World Cup captaincy. He still does it in T20s but not in 50s. the age of the overs format is important,” Ganguly said on RevSports.

Meanwhile, India’s senior batsmen like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya were covered in sad faces as they arrived in Colombo on Wednesday ahead of the Asia Cup 2023 tournament. The Indian team earlier held a week-long training camp at Alur in Bengaluru. they flew to the capital of Sri Lanka on the morning of August 30.

“KL Rahul has had a good week with us, he is making good progress on the route  we want to cover, but he is out of the Kandy leg of the first part of the tour. NCA will look after him while we do the route. We’ll reassess him at four (September 4th) and  take it from there. The signs are good and he is progressing well,”Rahul Dravid, Indian team’s head coach said in a press conference before departure.

India will be boosted by the return of Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah for the 2023 Asia Cup. Iyer will return after a six-month injury break. Bumrah played two T20Is against Ireland after returning after a month to international cricket in the 11th over.
