Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of research and innovation in agriculture during a meeting with farmers. On August 11, he launched 109 new types of seeds at the Pusa Institute. These seeds are designed to produce higher yields and are biofortified. The event also included the presence of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Launch of New Seeds
PM Modi arrived at the Pusa Institute, where he met with farmers despite heavy rain. Authorities suggested canceling the meeting due to the weather, but PM Modi insisted on proceeding.
Focus on Research and Innovation
During the meeting, PM Modi highlighted the importance of research and innovation in agriculture. He recalled the slogans “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” given by former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and “Jai Vigyan” added later by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Modi added “Jai Anusandhan” (Hail Research) to these slogans, emphasizing the role of research in agriculture.
Importance of Natural Farming
PM Modi encouraged farmers to adopt natural farming practices. He mentioned that farmers are increasingly moving away from pesticides and seeing better results from natural farming.
Advice on Adopting New Varieties
The Prime Minister suggested that farmers try out the new seed varieties developed through research. He advised them to use these seeds on a small portion of their land first. If the results are satisfactory, they should expand their use and share the information with others.
Commitment to Fast Work
PM Modi also mentioned that his government, in its third term, is committed to working three times faster.
