On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off three new Vande Bharat Express trains connecting Meerut to Lucknow, Madurai to Bengaluru, and Chennai to Nagarcoil. Speaking via video conference, PM Modi emphasized that rapid development of southern states is crucial for achieving India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. He also mentioned that increased budget allocations for Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have strengthened rail transport in these states.

Expansion of Amrit Bharat Trains

PM Modi highlighted that over ₹2.5 lakh crore has been allocated to the railways. To upgrade the railway system, it is being integrated with high-tech services. The Amrit Bharat trains are also expanding. He added that Vande Bharat sleeper trains are on the way and that a Vande Metro will be introduced soon. The Amrit Bharat initiative is transforming station facilities and city identities, linking even the smallest stations with modern amenities.

Faster Travel Times

The new Vande Bharat trains will provide world-class travel experiences with speed and comfort in Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. For example, the Meerut City-Lucknow Vande Bharat train will cut travel time by about one hour compared to the current fastest train. Similarly, the Chennai Egmore-Nagarcoil Vande Bharat will save over two hours, and the Madurai-Bengaluru Vande Bharat will save about one and a half hours.

Features of Vande Bharat Trains

The Vande Bharat trains, India’s first domestically designed and manufactured semi-high-speed trains, offer modern and comfortable rail travel. They operate at speeds up to 160 km/h and are equipped with collision avoidance technology and automatic plug doors for easy passenger movement.
