Mohammed Shami holds the record for the most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in World Cup history. During the 2023 World Cup, he surpassed Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath to achieve this feat. Shami has taken 55 wickets in 18 World Cup matches for India. In the 2023 World Cup, he was the top wicket-taker, claiming 24 wickets in just 7 matches.

Shami took 17 wickets in the 2015 World Cup and 14 wickets in the 2019 World Cup. In the 2023 World Cup, his performance was exceptional, especially during the semifinal against New Zealand, where he took 7 wickets.
