Directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, the rescue thriller did not receive any pre-release buzz and was one of Akshay Kumar’s lowest advance sales. Of course such films depend more on box office, but considering Akshay’s presence, at least a respectable number was expected. That didn’t happen at all!
Upon its release, Mission Raniganj received mixed reviews from critics; but word of mouth was decent. Surprisingly, it did not become footprints and the film never saw a glimmer of hope. Yes, I enjoyed National Film Day, but it was only one day. In the end, it turned out to be one of the biggest shocks for Akshay Kumar. As per the latest update, Mission Raniganj earned only around Rs 31 crore nett from the Indian box office.
The gross amount is 36.58 million euros. This is a really alarming number and an alarming sign. It is also a complete washout overseas as the film earned only 5-5.50 crores. Overall, the Akshay Kumar starrer grosses only Rs 41.58-42.08 crore worldwide and ends up earning less than Rs 50 crore in its lifetime. The film, which was released on October 6, also stars Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra, Parineeti Chopra, Ravi Kishan, Dibyendu Bhattacharya and others. It is based on Jaswant Singh Gill who saved the lives of trapped miners in Raniganj Coalfields in 1989.
On the work front, Akshay Kumar will be seen in several projects in the coming days. One of his most awaited films is Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which also stars Tiger Shroff.
