The Mahakumbh 2025 is halfway through. It began on Makar Sankranti in Prayagraj and will conclude on Mahashivratri. According to belief, taking a holy dip during the Mahakumbh washes away all sins and grants salvation. The dates and location of Mahakumbh are based on the positions of planets. Let’s look at the remaining royal bath dates and their significance.
Upcoming Royal Bath Dates
- Magh Purnima (12 February 2025)
- The next royal bath will be on Magh Purnima, a highly significant day according to scriptures like Skanda Purana and Bhavishya Purana.
- On this day, Kalpavas ends, and taking a holy dip removes sins and negativity.
- Mahashivratri (26 February 2025)
- The last royal bath will be on Mahashivratri, a day devoted to Lord Shiva.
- Bathing in the Ganges River on this day, especially in Kashi, is considered very sacred.
No Amrit Bath on Magh Purnima and Mahashivratri
According to astrology, an Amrit Bath is valid when the Sun is in Capricorn (Makar) and Jupiter is in Taurus (Vrishabha).
However, on Magh Purnima, the Sun will have moved to Aquarius (Kumbh), while Jupiter will remain in Taurus. As a result, neither Magh Purnima nor Mahashivratri baths qualify as Amrit Baths, although they are still considered highly auspicious.
Honoring Ancestors During Mahakumbh
On Purnima, devotees can perform Tarpan (ancestral offerings) and donate food and water according to their capacity. It is believed that these acts satisfy ancestors, who bless their descendants with happiness and prosperity.
