Kl Rahul : All eyes are currently on KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer as the Indian team prepares for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 tournament. The Men in Blue are currently participating in a preparation camp at Aluri near Bengaluru for the continental championships starting this week.
The sixteenth edition of the tournament began on August 30 in Multan with a match between hosts Pakistan and Nepal. Team India, on the other hand, will open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at Pallekele on Saturday (September 2).
The Rohit Sharma-led side is currently in Bengaluru to fine-tune their preparations for the matches. And there’s no denying that Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are getting a lot of attention. Members of India’s ODI middle order, both batsmen will return to competitive cricket in the Asia Cup. Both were on the injured side for long periods of time.
Shreyas Iyer has not played in the competition since suffering a back injury in the Ahmedabad Test against Australia in March, while Rahul was sidelined for the IPL 2023 in May with a hamstring injury. Both the batsmen have been named in the Asia Cup squad and are looking to hit the ground running in international cricket ahead of the World Cup.
Promising update on KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer:
While injuries to Rahul and Shreyas Iyer remain a concern, Cricbuzz reported that their progress so far has been satisfactory. Question marks remain over Rahul’s fitness to retire as the selectors have also named Sanju Samson as a stopgap, but the 31-year-old has made good progress.
The players will have a day off on Sunday and when training resumes on Monday, Rahul will take up more wicket keeping duties. Jasprit Bumrah and other players who were recently in Ireland for the T20I series will also join the Bengaluru squad on Monday before the squad leaves for Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
