West Indies’ top order was rocked by Mukesh Kumar, who finished with precise figures of 3/30 in seven overs, rendering them unbeatable with the bat in response. In his 6.3 overs of bowling, Shardul Thakur picked up four wickets while allowing 37 runs to be scored (for 77(64). He and Sanju Samson contributed to a critical 69-run stand in the middle overs, Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets, and Jaydev Unadkat, who was playing in his maiden ODI in nearly ten years, only managed one. Earlier, Ishan Kishan, another opener, and Gill combined for a strong 143-run partnership until Kishan was dismissed for 77(64). Gill scored 85(92) at that point. He shared a key 69-run partnership with Sanju Samson in the middle overs before Samson left just after reaching his half-century. The innings was then captained by a ferocious 52-ball 70 by Hardik Pandya.
