Earlier, Tilak Varma, a young Indian batsman, came to the rescue with his maiden international half-century, rescuing the star Indian batsmen. The southpaw scored 51 runs to help India reach 152/7.

Varma, who was India’s leading scorer in the first T20I in Trinidad with 39 off 22 deliveries, came up with another fighting knock, scoring 51 off 41 deliveries after the visitors got off to a terrible start, losing two wickets for 18 runs. Shubman Gill failed to score big again and was removed for 7, while Suryakumar Yadav was bowled for 3.

Varma kept the innings together, going in at 76/4 and responded with a magnificent effort in only his second T20I appearance. He began carefully and then played some spectacular shots to help India reach the three-figure mark. His 51 came off 41 deliveries and included five fours and one six.

Ishan Kishan (27) and Hardik Pandya (24) both contributed significantly with the bat to India’s comeback.

As India failed to reach 150 runs, Romario Shepherd (2-28), Alzarri Joseph (2-28), and Akeal Hosein (2-29) each took two wickets.
