24

When trying to lose weight, many people prefer to replace sugar with honey in their diet. But is honey really healthier than sugar? Nutritionist Deepshikha Jain explains the benefits of honey and sugar and how to include them in your diet.

Is Honey or Sugar Better?

According to the nutritionist, honey is not necessarily lower in calories compared to sugar. One tablespoon of sugar contains about 45 calories, while one tablespoon of honey contains between 65 and 68 calories. This means honey provides more calories than sugar. However, honey is much sweeter than sugar, so people usually use less of it.

If you are eating honey for health reasons, remember not to overeat it, thinking it will reduce your calorie intake. Eating honey in moderation is healthier. Honey has a lower glycemic index (GI) compared to sugar, but it can still affect blood sugar levels. Therefore, you should not consume too much honey, as excess of anything is harmful.

Problems with Sugar

Regular consumption of sugar, especially processed and refined sugar, is generally advised against. Processed sugar affects the body quickly and has no nutritional value, just calories. Therefore, it is best to consume sugar in small amounts for better health.
