UP Incident:
There have been many cases where Google Maps led people to the wrong destination. A recent incident occurred in Uttar Pradesh, where a man ended up in a field while following Google Maps. Things got worse when the people who came to help him stole his car. The police are now investigating the case.
How It Happened
According to reports, a young man from Meerut was traveling to Shamli. He had to meet someone at Rohana Toll Plaza. His contact sent him a location and asked him to follow the Saharanpur Road.
The man followed the location on Google Maps but got lost and ended up in a wheat field. When he tried to reverse the car to return to the highway, the car got stuck in the field.
Helpers Turn Thieves
After trying for a long time to get the car out, the man asked two bikers passing by for help. They called a few more friends, and together they managed to free the car.
As soon as the car was out, one of the helpers got into the driver’s seat and drove off with it. The rest fled on their bikes, leaving the man stranded. He immediately informed the police. After a search, the police found the car a short distance away. An investigation is ongoing.
Not the First Incident
This is not the first time Google Maps has caused confusion. Last month, Assam Police were going to raid a location but ended up in Nagaland instead, misled by the app. Armed police officers were mistaken for criminals and held captive by locals. They were freed the next day with the help of local police.
