Financial Fraud: Mumbai Becomes the Capital of Scams, ₹38,872 Crore Fraud in 2024

Mumbai, the financial capital of India, is often called the city of dreams. People from all over the country come here seeking job opportunities and a better future. However, this wealthy city has become a major target for financial fraudsters.

According to the Maharashtra Home Department, Mumbai recorded the highest number of financial fraud cases in the state. In 2024, there were 2,19,047 cases of financial fraud, causing a massive loss of ₹38,872 crore. Unfortunately, in most cases, victims never get their money back.

Financial Fraud in Mumbai

Mumbai alone reported 51,873 cases of financial fraud, followed by Pune with 22,059 cases. Other districts such as Thane, Nagpur, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Amravati, and Solapur also faced a significant number of fraud incidents.

Pune’s Situation

  • Total cases: 43,802
  • Pimpri-Chinchwad: 12,115 cases
  • Loss: ₹3,291 crore
  • Rural Pune: Loss of ₹434 crore

Thane’s Alarming Numbers

  • Total cases: 35,388
  • Thane City: 20,892 cases
  • Navi Mumbai: 12,260 cases
  • Rural Thane: 1,236 cases
  • Loss: ₹8,583 crore
  • Mira-Bhayander & Vasai-Virar: 11,754 cases, loss of ₹1,431 crore

Nagpur’s Situation

  • Nagpur City: 11,875 cases
  • Nagpur Rural: 1,620 cases
  • Loss: ₹1,491 crore

Financial fraud is increasing at an alarming rate, with Mumbai being the worst-affected city. Authorities need to take strict measures to prevent such incidents and protect people’s hard-earned money.
