“Mission Operations Complex, ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network, this is Chandrayaan-3,” ISRO said in a transmission sent from the satellite to its facilities. “I’m experiencing lunar gravity.”On August 5, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) performed the Lunar-Orbit Insertion (LOI) to successfully place the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft into lunar orbit. The LOI manoeuvre was carried out from Bengaluru’s ISRO Telemetry, Tracking, and Command Network (ISTRAC). The LOI manoeuvre began around 7 p.m.”The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft was successfully launched into lunar orbit.” “From the Mission Operations Complex (MOX), ISTRAC, Bengaluru, a retro-burning at the Perilune was commanded,” the space agency explained.Following the completion of the key manoeuvre, ISRO issued the following statement on its X social media platform: “Chandrayaan-3 Mission: MOX, ISTRAC, this is Chandrayaan-3.” “I’m experiencing lunar gravity.”Following the approval of the LOI, ISRO will perform four orbit rotations to place the spacecraft in its final orbit, around 100 kilometres above the moon’s surface. The first of these manoeuvres is slated for August 6 at 11 p.m. IST.”The next operation, orbit reduction, is scheduled for August 6, 2023, around 11 p.m. IST,” ISRO added. The Chandrayaan-3 is made up of three modules: a lander module (LM), a propulsion module (PM), and a rover. The separation of the PM and LM would take place on August 17. Before the power descent phase for soft-landing on the moon, a series of deboost manoeuvres are also planned. The lander is scheduled to land on the moon’s surface on August 23 at 5:47 p.m.The space agency announced on August 4 that India’s third moon mission, which launched on July 14, had travelled around two-thirds of the journey to the moon.
