Before the by-elections on 10 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, the Indian National Congress is not looking to upset the Samajwadi Party (SP). Congress may offer seats to SP as it prepares for elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. According to sources, Rahul Gandhi, MP from Rae Bareli and Leader of the Opposition, suggested in a Congress election committee meeting that seats could be offered to SP.
Sources say Congress might offer 2 seats to SP. Deepak Babaria, Congress’s Haryana in-charge, mentioned that discussions are ongoing with the Aam Aadmi Party and other parties in the India alliance. Detailed information will be provided in due course.

Rahul Gandhi stated in the meeting that maintaining the India alliance is crucial to defeat the BJP. He advised considering if alliances with other parties could be made, but did not specifically direct an alliance in Haryana.
In the UP by-elections, Congress is seeking the seats won by the BJP in the 2022 elections. Some of these seats have already been assigned to SP’s representatives. Congress has announced its observers for all 10 seats.
