Apple has taken major action by removing over 1.35 lakh apps from the App Store. This move is aimed at increasing transparency on the platform. Reports suggest that Apple removed these apps in the last two days because they failed to provide trader information. Let’s find out more details.
Developers Had a Deadline Until February 17
Apple had given app developers time until February 17 to submit their trader information. The company had clearly stated that apps failing to meet this requirement would be banned. Following the European Union (EU) regulations, Apple removed 1.35 lakh apps from the App Store in Europe. These apps will remain banned until they provide the required information and Apple verifies them. This is being considered the biggest action Apple has taken since launching the App Store.
EU’s Strict Rules for App Developers
According to the new EU regulations, app developers must disclose their trader status. This means they need to provide details like their address, phone number, and email to list their app on the App Store. If they fail to do so, Apple will ban their apps.
The Digital Services Act (DSA) was introduced in Europe to regulate online platforms. It was temporarily implemented in 2023 and fully enforced on February 17, 2025. Apple had given developers time until February 17 to comply with these rules.
