Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, recently shared his thoughts on work hours and productivity. Speaking at the ‘Mumbai Tech Week’ event, he said, “I do not think about work in terms of hours spent. What matters is the quality of work we do every day.”

Work vs. Hours Debate

His statement comes at a time when there is an ongoing debate about the number of hours people should work each week. Some business leaders have supported the idea of working up to 90 hours a week, while others believe that results matter more than hours. Another group argues that working less than 50 hours a week is better for productivity and well-being.

The debate started when Infosys founder Narayana Murthy suggested that Indians should work 70 hours a week to help the country progress.

Work and Family Are Priorities

Akash Ambani, the son of India’s richest businessman, Mukesh Ambani, emphasized that both work and family are his top priorities. He believes that knowing one’s priorities in life is very important.

Focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI)

He also highlighted Reliance Jio’s efforts in artificial intelligence (AI). The company has built a team of over 1,000 data scientists, researchers, and engineers to guide AI development.

Additionally, Reliance Jio is constructing a one-gigawatt capacity data center in Jamnagar, which will support India’s AI journey. The company is also considering offering Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) to enhance computing capabilities.

Akash Ambani’s views highlight a shift in focus from the number of hours worked to the impact and quality of work being done.
