The Maharashtra Assembly elections could be announced at any time. However, the seat-sharing arrangement within the ruling Mahayuti alliance has not been finalized yet. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar has given his response on the matter. He mentioned that the first round of discussions on seat distribution has taken place. They plan to meet again soon to decide which party will contest on which of the 288 seats. The seat distribution will be based on certain criteria.
Ajit Pawar’s NCP Prepares for 60 Seats
Ajit Pawar has directed his party’s young leaders and workers to prepare for 60 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections. He also mentioned that four Congress MLAs are now with them: Zeeshan Siddiqui, Hiraman Khoskar, and Sulbha Khodke. The NCP will focus on 54 of its current seats and the additional 4 from Congress, making it a total of 60 seats.

The Maharashtra Assembly, with its 288 seats, is likely to see elections in November. The ruling Mahayuti alliance includes Ajit Pawar’s NCP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). During the previous Lok Sabha elections, there were also challenges in finalizing the seat-sharing arrangement within the alliance.
Seat Distribution Tensions in MVA Too
On the other side, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is also facing tensions over seat distribution. According to a report by ABP Majha, Congress is demanding 13 to 15 seats in Mumbai. Shiv Sena (UBT) is claiming 20 to 22 seats, while the NCP Sharad Pawar faction is pushing for 5 to 7 seats. However, a final decision on the seat-sharing has not yet been made.
In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the MVA won 30 seats. With this success, the MVA partners—Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP Sharad Pawar faction, and Congress—are now more confident and are seeking to contest as many Assembly seats as possible.
