The Delhi Assembly session is facing controversy as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs have been stopped from entering the Assembly premises. On the second day of the session, 21 AAP MLAs were suspended for the entire session. Now, they are not allowed to enter the Assembly complex either.
AAP Leader Atishi Reacts
AAP leader Atishi strongly criticized this decision, accusing the ruling BJP of being unfair. She claimed that AAP MLAs were suspended just for chanting “Jai Bhim” slogans in the Assembly.
Taking to social media, she wrote, “The BJP has crossed all limits of dictatorship. Our MLAs were suspended for three days for chanting ‘Jai Bhim,’ and now they are not even allowed to enter the Assembly premises. This has never happened before in Delhi Assembly history.”
Suspended MLAs to Meet Assembly Speaker
Since they are not allowed inside, the suspended AAP MLAs are expected to meet Speaker Vijender Gupta. The suspension happened when AAP MLAs were protesting during Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s address in the Assembly. Due to the disruption, the Speaker suspended all 21 AAP MLAs for three days, until February 28. However, MLA Amanatullah Khan was not present at the time, so he was not suspended.
Key Discussions in Today’s Assembly Session
The Delhi Assembly session on February 27 will focus on:
- Election of the Deputy Speaker
- Debate on the liquor policy issue
The session will begin at 11:00 AM, where members can raise important issues under Special Mention (Rule 280). Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has proposed Mohan Singh Bisht’s name for Deputy Speaker, supported by Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa. Another proposal by Anil Kumar Sharma, supported by Gajendra Singh Yadav, has also been submitted.
A discussion on the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on Delhi’s liquor policy will also continue. This report was presented in the Assembly on February 25.
Since 21 out of 22 AAP MLAs have been suspended, there is likely to be less disruption inside the Assembly. However, AAP leaders may continue their protests outside the Assembly premises.
