The Indian men’s cricket team, meanwhile, won the gold after the final was washed out due to rain. Afghanistan had to settle for silver as India was awarded gold for their higher position in the event. In badminton, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy created history by winning India’s first badminton gold medal at the Asian Games. In women’s ice hockey, India defeated Japan 2-1 in the bronze medal match. Deepak Punia was knocked out in the 86kg freestyle final, while both the men’s, men’s and women’s teams were successful in chess as India added three silver medals.

The women’s team held on and defeated the country’s 100th medalist Chinese Taipei 26-25 in a dramatic final.
